With Powell saying "rates will rise" until job is done on inflation CNP is in the can again after it went up yesterday before his Jackson Hole speech this morning. Looks like someone raised the price to try to influence him into making a dovish speech on rate hikes and then pulled the plug when it didn't come out like they wanted. Amazing how stock prices can be manipulated by politics and not a company's good economics.

Excuse du Jour: Whatever event the market picks to sell-off in late afternoon profit-taking after it's run up stocks in the morning.

CenterPoint Energy Inc. is delaying retirement of a coal-fired power plant in Indiana as a surge in wholesale electricity prices and uncertainty about some renewable projects undermines President Joe Biden’s push to decarbonize the grid.

The push to retire existing electric generation plants w/o a sound plan going forward is irresponsible. The recent heat wave is an example of the pace needs top be measured. Plus the recent changes to climate have almost nothing to do with carbon in the atmosphere. Based on data it shows that the glaciers were at their greatest extent since the last ice age around 1820. The start of present melting started around 1820 prior to large amounts of CO2 in the atmosphere and have been uniformly melting ever since. Real scientists understand there seems to have been a change in the Sun's activity causing theses changes.

Cnp cuts dividend 50% resulting in share price catering. Now share price almost back and dividend upped 6% of 50% cut after how many years?

Mgmt did not cut their bonuses, their pay after screwing up! Yes Ceo canned. But new management got low priced options, big salary and bonuses. Even after shareholders voted no....their committee appointed and reporting to CEO over turned shareholders vote approving pay.

Reported Q2 2022 earnings of $0.28 and $0.31 per diluted share on a GAAP and non-GAAP basis, respectively

Full year 2022 non-GAAP EPS guidance increased to $1.37-$1.39, representing an increase of 9% at the midpoint compared to full year 2021

A big thank you to Goldman Sachs for recommending CNP (because of its safe dividend) just two days before CNP cuts its dividend. Unbelievable.

To many, knowing when to buy and dump stocks is a superpower. They can’t help but follow speculations and emotions. The thing is, there are too many strategies out there and one gets confused about which works. Mr. Henry Artem has proven to be the best so far. and I must say it’s been very smooth working with him so far. I have made over $850k on my investment. you can reach out to him via 🆃🅴🅻🅴🅶🆁🅼 (HENRYARTEM).

I received a hundred some shares of this stock as part of a spin off many years ago. Because I sold the parent company stock at a significant gain, I got these CNP shares (effectively) for free. I am enrolled in a DRP so those few shares are now 523 shares and my effective cost basis is 89 cents a share. So I will hold on to this for a long, long time and continue to accumulate more shares through the DRP. It might not be the best stock in the world but is doing good for me.

My understanding is that Blackrock Inc. is accumulating more shares at this price. Good for the long positions.

CNP popped up on my radar during my research on utility companies.
Of the major utility players, CNP seems to have one of the lowest share prices, highest dividends,
    and lowest PE's.
I bought 1000 shares yesterday and today.

The earning were just atrocious. Target 10 dollars
-----CenterPoint Energy, Inc. CNP reported fourth-quarter 2019 adjusted earnings of 45 cents per share, which exceeded the Zacks Consensus Estimate of 37 cents by 21.6%. The bottom line also jumped 25% from the year-ago quarter’s 36 cents.
The company’s GAAP earnings came in at 25 cents per share compared with the 18 cents registered in the prior-year quarter.
For 2019, CenterPoint Energy posted adjusted earnings of $1.79 per share, beating the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $1.69 by 5.9%. Full-year earnings also improved 11.9% from the year-earlier tally of $1.60."
PS: Why would anyone want to owe a stock like this yielding 5% when 30 year T bonds are yielding 1.67% and 10 year T notes are yielding 1.12%.
