Remember the "why buy BRKB when you can buy AAPL directly" crowd?

WA state is on the verge of passing its ever capital gains tax. The measure would impose a 7% tax on the sale of stocks, bonds and other high-end assets — like a classic car or painting — in excess of $250,000 for both individuals and couples. This is going to be poison for WA state BRK-A holders who may hold a substantial capital gain in one share of stock.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren told CNBC that buybacks are market manipulation made to inflate executive pay.
I should have known this was Buffet's motives, he's trying to get that $100,000 a year salary up to $110,000. Sneaky.

TSLA only has 90% more to decline..and then it’ll only be modestly more expensive than the market.

I might have been wrong in saying BRK is a little pricey. I see two sites that show price to book is 1.32 or 1.33 which is right at long term mean. Maybe Buffet is buying back at 1.3 and below. We know he has used book as a metric before buying at limit of 1.1 and 1.2. If he feels that we are in long term low interest rate environment then you could justify locking in some long term returns over 5%. How much over I don't know.
Also interesting that he finds nothing to buy with new cash, not even letting it pile up on his books any more, but is locking in satisfactory returns buying in stock.

The Warren Buffett era again.

Everyone should go to the website of “Semper Augustus Investments “and read their most current client letter. They always write a section on BRK every year because BRK consists of 30% or so of their portfolio. It’s a very good read.It gives charts of what they think intrinsic value is.They explained Brk very well.

Just remember we could have bought at $159.50 less than one year ago. At op earnings plus look thru that is about 8 years of earnings realized in less than one year. If you hold long enough Buffet will bail you out even if you over pay, but you make more buying in middle of a panic.

From last year (2019) annual letter...
"In past reports, we have discussed both the sense and nonsense of stock repurchases. Our thinking, boiled down: Berkshire will buy back its stock only if a) Charlie and I believe it is selling for less than it is worth and b) the company, upon completing the purchase, is left with ample cash.
Calculations of intrinsic value are far from precise. Consequently, neither of us feels any urgency to buy an estimated $1 of value for a very real 95 cents. In 2019, the Berkshire price/value equation was modestly

Funny thing is Warren Buffet says we should focus on operating earnings yet his greatest gains have been from investments he has made. Buffet first purchased Apple stock in late 2016 at a cost of $36 billion. By July 2018, Berkshire held over a billion split-adjusted shares of the iPhone maker, or 5.2%, at a cost of $36 billion. “Since then, we have both enjoyed regular dividends, averaging about $775 million annually, and have also — in 2020 — pocketed an additional $11 billion by selling a small portion of our position,” he wrote. “Despite that sale — voila! — Berkshire now owns 5.4% of Apple,” Buffett declared. And because Apple continually bought back its own stock..... Bank of America purchase during the last crisis........... BYD 10 plus years ago.......
No Warren, investment gains do matter and we pay attention to both......

I been watching this world wide Crypto drive. Almost seems driven by fear of gov/IRS over regulation. US dollar is a Crypto (established fiat) currency. In US dollar every transaction is monitored by IRS forcing banks, a Federal Reserve branch, to report even deposits. Banks enable some high school kid to decide and make the decisions whos deposit to target, report and delay. Plus regulate the value too to the entire world. I am sure other countries do it worse. So, everyone in the world is like, "fine here's a Crypto take that-stop watching me in my shower! Now US IRS is like, "here, I brought you a towel to dry off, I seen on camera your about to get out!--meaning now their getting really involved and want a peek." Maybe we regulate the regulators left unchecked their growing aggressive! HUM? Interesting to watch (from distance), Soon it be like 40-50 different types of Crypto's everywhere-that be a mess.. Thoughts?
