Portugal's EDP plans 500 MW of solar capacity in Germany - CEO

BERLIN (Reuters) -Portugal's largest utility Energias de Portugal (EDP) wants to build capacity of 500 megawatts (MW) in Germany's solar market by 2026, its chief executive said on Tuesday, fleshing out the group's plans for Europe's top economy. The comments come as EDP has embarked on a 25 billion euro ($27 billion) global investment push to boost its renewables and grids business between the 2023-2026 period, with 2 billion earmarked for Germany. "Germany is a large market and it has plenty of growth potential," Miguel Stilwell d'Andrade told Reuters on the sidelines of the Handelsblatt energy summit in Berlin.

Europe suffers from a lack of on the ground execution for subsidisied energy projects which leaves many far from completed, the chief executive of Portugal's largest utility firm Energias de Portugal said to Reuters in Davos. The European Commission had "great vision" at laying out projects on a higher level, CEO Miguel Stilwell d'Andrade of EDP said, speaking on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum. D'Andrade honed in on green hydrogen, which Portugal wants to become a major producer and exporter of as countries turn to the cleaner energy source to tackle carbon emissions and improve energy security.

EDP weighing Brazil green hydrogen plant for exports to Germany, CEO says

Portuguese power company EDP is preparing substantial investments in Brazil, its CEO told Reuters, including a possible green hydrogen plant that could export to Germany. Brazil may be key to the EDP's energy transition strategy, CEO Miguel Stilwell said, and a new plant in the South American nation could kick off its green energy exports to Europe. "We are participating in a (green hydrogen) auction in Germany, to have an industrial project in Brazil and export," Stilwell said, without providing details on production capacity or the value of such an investment.
