Canada’s top 20 biggest companies

Between Loblaws and Shoppers Drug Mart, George Weston Limited stores dominate street corners across the country with more than 2,300 stores. The company, which is controlled by the uber-rich Weston family, is also the largest private-sector employer in Canada with more than 200,000 staff. And it’s no surprise that it tops the Financial Post’s 2015 top 500 biggest companies in Canada. The rankings consider the revenue, profits and assets of Canadian companies to determine their placement.

The list also has several notable movers and shakers. Restaurant Brands International, which was created through a merger between Burger King and Tim Hortons in December 2014, posted a 290.9 per cent jump in revenue to $5.2 billion. Meanwhile, former blue chip stock Blackberry Ltd., continued its five-year slide, dropping 33 spots to 149 after posting a 24.9 per cent drop in revenue to $2.8 billion.
