2 Chainz buys Steve Vai's former L.A. pad for $2.45M

Grammy-nominated rapper 2 Chainz has purchased a mansion in Los Angeles’ Hollywood Hills for $2.45 million.

The Mediterranean-style home once belonged to legendary guitarist Steve Vai.

Vai, who purchased the home in 1987 at the age of 27 for $330,000, called the home, which features a 1,400-square-foot recording studio, “The Mothership.”

Over the years, Vai rented it out to dozens of bands and musicians including the likes of Sugar Ray, Ozzy Osbourne, Eddie Van Halen and Slash.

He sold the home for $1.5 million in 2015.

After a year-long renovation, it was listed by the new owner in September for $2.5 million, only to be snapped up by 2 Chainz two days later.
