Production on Euphoria might still be on pause due to the coronavirus lockdown, but showrunner Sam Levinson and star Zendaya still got to work this summer while abiding by health and safety protocols amidst the pandemic. The duo covertly shot the film Malcolm & Marie with John David Washington (Tenet, BlacKkKlansman) starring opposite Zendaya and a limited crew on set, Deadline reports.

Details such as the release date and synopsis remain secret, but Malcolm & Marie apparently boasts "echoes of Marriage Story, while resonating a number of social themes that the world is experiencing right now," per the outlet. Zendaya also gave fans a tease with a sultry black-and-white still with Washington on social media.

Shooting took place from 17 June to 2 July at the eco-conscious and architecturally stunning Caterpillar House in Carmel, CA. The team were all tested for Covid-19 and quarantined in Monterrey for two weeks before filming began, according to Deadline.

Once production was underway, there was a myriad of health guidelines the team had to follow, which a producer developed with help from the production's unions and a doctor's oversight. The actors and crew members wore masks and social distanced while staying on the Caterpillar House's sprawling private property. No one was allowed to leave the grounds. Even the chef, who made all the meals, quarantined with the crew.

There were no more than 12 people on the set at a time. There was limited to no physical contact between the crew and actors. The actors had to mic and dress themselves. The gear was sanitised daily and temperature checks often took place at the start and end of filming.
