Zendaya, Anya Taylor-Joy selected as 2021 CFDA Fashion Awards honorees

Zendaya and Anya Taylor-Joy have been crowned as this year's style icons.

The Council of Fashion Designers of America announced Tuesday that the actresses will be honored during the 2021 Fashion Awards ceremony in November. The CFDA selected Zendaya as this year's fashion icon "for her global impact on fashion," and the organization will honor Taylor-Joy with the organization's first "Face of the Year" award.

Zendaya will be the youngest recipient to receive the fashion icon award, according to CFDA's announcement, as she joins a list of previous honorees including Beyoncé, Rihanna and Lady Gaga. Jennifer Lopez was the most recent honoree for the fashion icon in 2019.

"Without exception, the 'Euphoria' and 'Dune' star makes a style statement as soon as she steps out of her car," the statement read. "She has been a supporter of both emerging designers and established fashion houses."

Zendaya was most recently captured on the red carpet alongside "Dune" co-star Timothée Chalametmalet during the movie's premiere in London. The actress was draped in a white Rick Owens dress.

Zendaya and Taylor-Joy aren't the only actresses being recognized at the 2021 awards: Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen are nominated for the American accessories designer of the year for The Row.

CDFA will also be honoring designer Dapper Dan with the Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award, Aurora James with the Founder’s Award, and outdoor brand Patagonia will be awarded the environmental sustainability award.

The 2020 fashion awards were postponed and held virtually due to the coronavirus pandemic but were praised for having the most diverse amount of winners in the organization's almost 40-year history.

The results came two months after the CFDA faced backlash for its 30 nominees, the majority of which were white.
