Yamaha's Yard Built Program Unveils XSR900 Custom Build

Yamaha's Yard Built Program Unveils XSR900 Custom Build

Yamaha has unveiled a custom XSR900 that it calls "Monkeebeast" and which it describes as an urban warrior.

The name comes from Denmark-based custom builders Wrenchmonkees, who have done a number of builds for the Japanese manufacturer's Yard Built series, including sexed-up versions of the SR400 and the not-sold-in-the-United-States XJR1300.

In trademark hyperbolic style, Yamaha says of the Monkeebeast: "This is no run-of-the-mill cafe racer or brat-style machine but a brutal brawler, an urban warrior built to tackle any terrain."

"[Wrenchmonkees] have shown that with some clever modifications, but no cutting or welding to the frame, you can transform the XSR900 into something completely different," says Yamaha Motor Europe Marketing Coordinator Cristian Barelli

Taking the XSR900 from a street machine to an all-terrain beast comes courtesy of Borrani 17-inch spoke wheels with black rims, 9mm stainless spokes and black hubs. The Borrani wheels carry Continental TKC tyres. The rear-end has been improved with a K-Tech shock, Gilles Tooling chain adjusters and a TRW rear brake disc and steel braided brake lines.

Featuring a bespoke Wrenchmonkees seat, the riding position is also touched by Gilles Tooling rearsets modified with enduro footrests, a Magura handlebar and Biltwell Renegade grips. Braking at the front gets an upgrade with a Nissin radial front brakemaster and steel braided brake lines. Motogadget pushbuttons clean up the contact point and an MT-03 style headlight and LED taillight help to blur the lines between XSR900 and FZ-09 (known as the MT-09 outside the United States).

An SC Project exhaust and Wrenchmonkees one-off aluminium rear fender, front fender and engine guard complete the custom look.

Yamaha's Yard Built series is designed to encourage people to take their bikes in creative directions.
