Women’s clothing chain in midst of a big expansion opens in Fayette Mall

A national women’s clothing chain specializing in “fast fashion” and affordably-priced special occasion dresses has opened a Lexington location.

Windsor Fashions opened in Fayette Mall Oct. 7, the company said in a news release.

“Windsor focuses on providing a broad selection of on-trend apparel for all the occasions in a woman’s life,” the company said. “Whether school-based occasions like Prom and Graduation, seasonal events like Halloween, New Year’s Eve, or everyday occasions like date night and brunch with the girls; Windsor provides a broad and inspiring assortment of the latest trends.”

The store is located across from another fast fashion brand, Forever 21, in Fayette Mall. In Louisville, Windsor has stores in Mall St. Matthews and Jefferson Mall, according to the company’s website.

The California-based company has more than 260 locations in the U.S., according to the news release announcing the Lexington location. The chain announced in May that it planned to open 150 new stores in 2021 and 2022. At that time, the retailer said it had 230 stores and indicated that its target market is the 18 to 34 age group.

“The reopening of the economy in 2021 is leading to a resurgence in social events and special occasions like prom, graduation and weddings. Windsor is benefiting both online and in store from this momentum as brick and mortar continues to maintain its importance for last minute occasion shopping,” Windsor said in the May news release.

“Post-pandemic Windsor is positioned in an ideal spot to capitalize on the return to normalcy and deliver accessible fashion for all the social events in our customers’ lives,” Windsor CEO Leon Zekaria said then. “The rapid increase in our store expansion plan is an exciting next chapter for our employees, our business and ultimately our customers.”

Zekaria and his brother Ike Zekaria represent the second generation of their family to operate the clothier, which was founded in 1937.
