A California woman’s body was recovered from the Colorado River on Tuesday, several days after she and her husband both drowned.
Suzan Weaver, 68, and her husband, James Weaver, 75, were traveling by boat about 15 miles north of Lake Havasu City last Thursday. Arizona officials said Suzan Weaver fell in the river when trying to retrieve an item that had dropped out of the boat, and then James Weaver entered the water to help, The Associated Press reported.
James Weaver soon lost consciousness in the water, and Suzan Weaver sank below the river’s surface, the Valley Roadrunner reported. Nearby boaters pulled James Weaver out of the water, and emergency responders attempted to revive him, but he was later pronounced dead at the hospital, officials said.
Rescuers searched for Suzan Weaver through the weekend until Tuesday, when her body was found “in the river near the area where the incident occurred,” the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office told City News Service.
The sheriff’s office is investigating both deaths, AP reported.
