Why 'Bridgerton' Skipped Over Benedict in Favor of a Polin Season

Why 'Bridgerton' Skipped Over Benedict in Favor of a Polin Season

The third season of Bridgerton drops this May, and you better grab a glass of water and prepare for thirst because—as anyone who's read Romancing Mister Bridgerton knows—Penelope and Colin's story is steamy.

But while the countdown to Polin is officially on, some fans are wondering why the show seemingly skipped over An Offer for a Gentleman (the third book in the series) and jumped straight to book #4.

To catch everyone up real quick: Bridgerton has thus far been pretty faithful to its source material's order: season one focused on Phoebe (just like book #1, The Duke & I), and season two focused on Anthony (just like book #2, The Viscount Who Loved Me). And the initial assumption was that season three would focus on Benedict—the subject of An Offer for a Gentleman.

So, why did Bridgerton pass over Benedict and push up Polin? Showrunner Jess Brownell explained their thinking to Entertainment Weekly, and honestly, it makes sense:

"We've spent two seasons really getting to know Pen and Colin. We've been watching Pen's crush and seeing how oblivious Colin is to it. That's a dynamic that you can only play out for so long before something has to change. This really felt like the right time to lean into what's been set up with them. On the Benedict side, he's such a fun character and such a fan favorite that we are really excited to play with him for a little bit more and let him have more fun before he settles down."

Excited to see Benedict ~have fun~ tbh!
