McLaren P1, Porsche 918, Ferrari LaFerrari? Finally We Know Which Is Faster On Track

How long have we been waiting for a definitive answer to the hypercar question of the century? Just yesterday Jeremy Clarkson posted a picture of his band of brothers posing with the big three — McLaren P1, Porsche 918 Spyder, Ferrari LaFerrari — for their new Amazon Prime show, and in retaliation, journalist Chris Harris announced he too has a video in the works depicting the trio in plumes of glorious tire smoke. But the actual answer arrives from a surprising source—the Supercar Driver.

And boy was it close.

British Touring Car Driver Mat Jackson spent the morning at Silverstone national circuit in England driving all three machines on track. He did three orientation laps followed by three timed laps. The P1 went first with the other two following in close succession to enable as similar conditions as possible. Without giving the game away, the fastest time is a stellar 58.2 seconds. Mighty impressive, until you consider that a 2004 McLaren F1 car lapped the same circuit in 42 seconds (I know because I was there). So while we’re all in awe over these 900 horsepower hybrid stunners — as we should be — it’s worth reminding ourselves just how stupidly fast F1 cars used to be.

Oh, and watch the video above to find out which of these street legal monsters pulled off the win, and let us know in the comments if the result is what you expected.
