NatWest has announced that a further 23 branches of the bank will close, as banks across the country continue to slash their high street presence.

A total of 23 NatWest stores are confirmed to be closing their doors between the end of April and beginning of June of this year, including in major towns and cities such as London, Exeter and Blackpool.

The company has announced 102 closures since last February, and the latest announcement brings the tally of high street bank branches slated for closure across the sector since the start of January to 87.

The Southampton branch of NatWest will be the quickest to close of the latest batch, on April 25, and closure dates are yet to be decided for the stores in Horwich, Greater Manchester, and Shoreham-by-Sea, West Sussex.

London will be losing a further two NatWest banks, and Wales is also set to lose another two – both in May.

The South East, which has seen the largest volume of bank branch closures in recent years, will see another seven closures – including three in Kent, one in Fleet in Hampshire, and another in Crawley, West Sussex.

The region has already lost 704 local banks since 2015 according to Which? figures.

Torquay, Devon, will lose their NatWest branch, as well Frome and Ilminster in Somerset.

In the north of England, Heslington, York will see the local NatWest shut its doors on 27 April, and a branch in Bootle, Merseyside, will close on 10 May.
