This Week’s Most Popular Home Is a Party Pad in New Orleans

Generating 10 times as many clicks as the other houses on our list, a New Orleans home where “glam meets old world charm” emptied the punch bowl and sashayed away with the glory. Formerly owned by rock god Lenny Kravitz, the cool Creole cottage looks like the perfect place to recover from a massive Mardi Gras hangover.
Aside from the party pad, there were quite a few other homes worth celebrating. We uncovered an enormous estate that was an Ayurvedic healing center, a new contender for the priciest place in the country, and a foreclosed treehouse loft in Florida.

Price: $455,000
Why it’s here: It’s the only Frank Lloyd Wright-designed home currently for sale in Michigan, according to listing agent Fred Taber. He told us the Usonian home fell into a sad state of disrepair but is now ready for buyers, thanks to a smart and sensitive remodel. In addition to a home on the National Register of Historic Places, a buyer will get 70 acres of rolling land.

Price: $25,000
Why it’s here: It’s a treehouse in the sky for less than the price of a new car. Listing agent Sue Ann Williamon told us the foreclosed loft on Lake Marion has been the object of an outsized amount of affection. “It’s been a while since a unit like this has been up for sale. People are going crazy over it,” she says, and added she’s received multiple offers and the unit will sell for over asking.

Price: $1,799,000
Why it’s here: It’s been six weeks on the market, and listing agent Courtney Monigold confessed she listed this sparkling new house“at the worst possible time of the year.” However, the timing turned out just right in terms of popularity, as interest in the home has surged. The sleek, modern interiors and spacious yard put this home toward the upper end of the Birmingham market, but Monigold says the four-bedroom place “is close to downtown and is not a cookie-cutter type of home.” She credited the home’s “beautiful new construction” to local builders La Marco Homes.

Price: $725,000
Why it’s here: It’s a lot of house (and acreage) for a relatively little amount of money. Listing agent Crystal White said the 14.5-acre lot “is unheard of” for the area and that the home has been appraised at $1.6 million. The enormous house measures in at 8,700 square feet and could use a few cosmetic tweaks to the interior. White figures that the fixes would run about $150,000—which isn’t bad considering the home is selling for just $83 per square foot.

Why it’s here: A new titleholder for the priciest home in the country! Not content with letting Hillsboro Beach’s $159 million mansion hog all the glory, this oceanfront 33-bedroom (!) estate is has upped the ante for the title of most expensive in America.

Why it’s here: Still awaiting a happy ending, the “Silence of the Lambs” home continues to scare up clicks.

Price: $195,000
Why it’s here: Built as a B&B overlooking Tulsa, this five-bedroom home was sold in just five days. How? Listing agent Stan Gardner says, “It’s the most aggressively priced listing I’ve ever had.” At only $43 per square foot, the home had his phone ringing non-stop. He spent most of Saturday showing the home and wound up with three offers. The interiors are … interesting. Gardner admitted the home’s paint and decor were a challenge, but he was able to “show buyers the big picture and sell the potential.”

Why it’s here: Last week’s runner-up, this one-bedroom cottage in the French Quarter strutted past the competition this week. Formerly the home of Lenny Kravitz, this luxe twist on an old Creole home snapped up 10 times as many clicks as the second-place finisher. Perhaps it was Mardi Gras fever, but we don’t imagine this place will remain on the market much longer.
