Have you ever been to Barrett-Jackson? Have you ever watched a guy who owns several car dealerships bid a couple of Buick GNXs to the moon? Then you won't be surprised that Donald Trump's Lamborghini Diablo VT Roadster made some waves at Scottsdale.
Watch the speed as this thing climbs into the stratosphere on Saturday's bidding:
According to Barrett-Jackson, this constitutes a "world record" auction price, presumably for a Diablo VT Roadster. Barrett-Jackson added that the crowd "rose to its feet and cheered when a 1997 Lamborghini Diablo VT roadster (Lot #1407) previously owned by Donald J. Trump set a new auction world record with its $1.1 million sale."
Beyond its personal connection with Trump, there's not a lot to be said about this particular Diablo. Stock is the 492 hp and 428 lb-ft of torque 5.7-liter V-12, five-speed manual transmission, all-wheel-drive system, and the engine's 16-bit computer for its electronic fuel injection. This is the Nineties we're talking about, after all.
The most expensive VT Roadster to sell on Bring a Trailer went for half a million in November of 2023. The pink one that we at Road & Track drove (and loved) went for $410,000. Most other Diablos go for around a hundred thousand less.
