Directed by Samantha Stark, this latest installment in The New York Times Presents examines Spears' two-decade-long career, marked by intense media scrutiny throughout her troubled 20's and into the present day. The 75-minute documentary also sheds light on the star's ongoing conservatorship, a court-appointed legal guardianship under which her father, Jamie Spears, holds complete control over her assets, finances, and estate.

The documentary features key interviews by lawyers, media executives, and close friends of the "Baby One More Time" singer, including Felicia Culotta, the star's former assistant and longtime confidant.

Viewers will also gain insight into the #FreeBritney movement, a fan-led campaign which seeks to bring an end to the conservatorship and restore Spears’ autonomy. Following the documentary's premiere, the viral hashtag has seen a huge resurgence online, with many on social media expressing their support of the singer.
