Want a J&J, Moderna or Pfizer COVID-19 booster? Here’s where to get one in Sacramento

Read this story in Spanish.

As the weather becomes colder and flu season kicks in, health officials are encouraging people to get booster shots as soon as they’re eligible.

Last week, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved the Moderna and Johnson & Johnson boosters. And Pfizer was previously given the green light on an extra shot for certain groups.

This means you can receive an additional poke from any of the three available brands. Those eligible for an extra dose can get a brand different from the one they initially received, according to regulators.

Currently, those eligible for Moderna and Pfizer boosters are people ages 65 and older, those 18 and older who work in high-risk environments, those ages 18 and older who have underlying medical conditions and those 18 and older who live in long-term care settings.

Booster shots are also recommended for those 18 and older who received the Johnson & Johnson vaccine at least two months ago, according to the CDC. President Joe Biden’s chief medical adviser, Anthony Fauci, said in a recent interview that the Johnson & Johnson vaccine should have been given as a two-dose series to begin with.

According to the the official California COVID-19 website, more than 24 million, or 72.6% of California residents, are fully vaccinated and about 1.9 million boosters have been administered.

What to bring to your booster appointment

Bring your vaccination card, some type of identification with your name on it and your health insurance, if you have it.

However, you do not need a government issued ID or health insurance to receive the vaccine. Eligible undocumented individuals will receive the vaccine regardless of immigration status, according to the California Department of Public Health.
