Fertilizer stocks received a boost Monday as they could potentially benefit from any economic sanctions against Russia. Ukrainian commanders have received ultimatums from Russian army or Russian Black Sea Fleet officers ordering them to abandon their military bases. The tension has caused the ruble to fall to a record low Monday. “The erstwhile cartel between Russia and [neighboring] Belarus supplied 43% of total global potash demand,” last year, said Newedge director of market strategy, Robbert van Batenburg. “Non-Russian potash supplier…may benefit from a potential trade sanctions that could impact Russian potash exports.” Here is how some Fertilizer stocks reacted Monday:

Agrium Inc. (NYSE:AGU - News)(TSX:AGU.TO - News) shares traded in the range of $91.40 to $93.67 Monday before settling to close at $93.42, an increase of 1.24 percent. The stock appears to be facing some resistance at $95.32 with some support at the $92.58 and $91.81 levels. Shares of Agrium have gained approximately 2.0 percent year-to-date.

Intrepid Potash, Inc. (NYSE:IPI - News) shares traded in the range of $14.73 to $15.27 Monday before settling to close at $14.94, an increase of 0.88 percent.
