Volkswagen November sales plunge 24.7%

As Volkswagen hopes to put its emission-cheating scandal behind it, are its troubled shares worth picking up?

Volkswagen of America on Tuesday reported a 24.7 percent drop in auto sales in November.

The automaker posted sales of 23,882 units delivered in the month.

The company said the results reflect the impact of the recent voluntary stop-sale for all 2.0L 4-cylinder TDI vehicles, as well as for the 3.0L V6. The stoppage was issued in light of notices received by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the California Air Resources Board regarding emissions compliance.

The sales stoppage was due to the automaker installing sophisticated software known as "defeat devices" in its diesel vehicles. Volkswagen's cars have emitted 40 times the amount of noxious nitrogen oxide than the limit proscribed by the EPA.
