Velocity Minerals Ltd. (CVE:VLC) insider upped their holding by 3.7% earlier this year

From what we can see, insiders were net buyers in Velocity Minerals Ltd.'s (CVE:VLC ) during the past 12 months. That is, insiders acquired the stock in greater numbers than they sold it.

While we would never suggest that investors should base their decisions solely on what the directors of a company have been doing, we do think it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing.

Velocity Minerals Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

The Director of Geology, Stuart Mills, made the biggest insider sale in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for CA$222k worth of shares at a price of CA$0.29 each. While insider selling is a negative, to us, it is more negative if the shares are sold at a lower price. The silver lining is that this sell-down took place above the latest price (CA$0.25). So it is hard to draw any strong conclusion from it. Stuart Mills was the only individual insider to sell shares in the last twelve months.

Robert Kopple bought a total of 2.19m shares over the year at an average price of CA$0.26. Insider Ownership Of Velocity Minerals

Another way to test the alignment between the leaders of a company and other shareholders is to look at how many shares they own. I reckon it's a good sign if insiders own a significant number of shares in the company. Velocity Minerals insiders own about CA$9.4m worth of shares. That equates to 23% of the company. We've certainly seen higher levels of insider ownership elsewhere, but these holdings are enough to suggest alignment between insiders and the other shareholders.

So What Does This Data Suggest About Velocity Minerals Insiders?

It is good to see the recent insider purchase. And an analysis of the transactions over the last year also gives us confidence. But on the other hand, the company made a loss during the last year, which makes us a little cautious. Given that insiders also own a fair bit of Velocity Minerals we think they are probably pretty confident of a bright future. While we like knowing what's going on with the insider's ownership and transactions, we make sure to also consider what risks are facing a stock before making any investment decision. Every company has risks, and we've spotted 5 warning signs for Velocity Minerals (of which 3 can't be ignored!) you should know about.

For the purposes of this article, insiders are those individuals who report their transactions to the relevant regulatory body. We currently account for open market transactions and private dispositions, but not derivative transactions.
