Vancouver Industrial Crating Company Introduces Bonded Warehouse Services

Vancouver's Cratex Industrial Packing now offers Bonded Warehouse servicesClick here for high-resolution version

DELTA, BC--(Marketwired - October 20, 2016) - Those importing goods into or moving goods through Canada now have an additional option for Vancouver Bonded Warehouse services. Delta-based industrial crating company Cratex Industrial Packing Ltd. recently obtained a licence for operating as an official Bonded Warehouse.

These services allow anyone receiving goods internationally to delay paying duties on said items for up to four years. Effectively, items are considered still in possession of the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) while they are stored in a Bonded Warehouse.

During that time, businesses may still manipulate or alter the goods in ways that allow for long-term storage or that prepare goods for their final distribution. Such manipulations include:

  • Inspection

  • Disassembly or reassembly of goods assembled or disassembled to prepare them for transport, handling, etc.

  • Labelling, marking or tagging

  • Packing, packaging or generally preparing for transport

  • Using goods for display as a retail sample or at trade shows

  • Testing

  • Cleaning

  • Preserving

  • Diluting of liquids and chemical substances

  • Normal servicing or maintenance

  • Separating defective goods from prime quality goods

  • Sorting or grading

  • Trimming, cutting or filing goods

  • Activities performed to comply with any applicable law of Canada or of a province

Additionally, those storing goods in a licenced Bonded Warehouse may be eligible to remove their goods without having to pay an import duty if they are later bound for export. This exemption includes processes that consolidate domestic and imported goods for purposes of further distribution, although export duties or transit duties may apply.

For instance, a company distributing golden syrup imported from Australia as well as maple syrup produced in Quebec to the United States could temporarily store goods in a Bonded Warehouse in order to prepare both sets of products for export.

Cratex Vice President Rob Gagno was excited to announce the services as a part of the company's continuing growth and evolution. "By adding Bonded Warehouse services to our repertoire, we are moving even closer to becoming an all-encompassing resource for major manufacturers and distributors moving goods through Vancouver," said Gagno. "We aim to eliminate the confusion many companies face when abiding by CBSA regulations and trying to juggle multiple shipping processes at once."

In addition to offering Bonded Warehouse services, Cratex offers freight packaging of large items, mass packaging of large volume shipments and, most recently, Sufferance Warehouse services allowing for inspection of goods outside of their port of entry.
