USB-C Confirmed For Nintendo Switch?

A listing on EB Games is making everyone believe that the Nintendo Switch will come with a USB-C port.

The Nintendo Switch is not due for release until March 2017, but ever since the Japanese video game company gave everyone a first look at the upcoming console a month ago, many are intrigued and excited to know more about the hybrid video game device.

The latest update about the Nintendo Switch is suggesting that the console will come with a USB-C port. Nintendo has yet to announce the official specs of the device, but a listing on EB Games appeared this week, and it somehow confirms that the console will use a USB-C charging cable for super-fast charging, as reported by My Nintendo News.

EB Games Australia reportedly listed the USB-C charging cable as an accessory for the Nintendo Switch. “USB-A to USB-C Charging Cable compatible with the Nintendo Switch Console,” the retailer wrote as description for the accessory on its website. Unfortunately, the listing has been removed from the site as of press time.

Nintendo is known for relying on proprietary cables for its handheld gaming systems. Such cables are also the standard in the gaming industry, as pointed out by TechnoBuffalo. If Nintendo is indeed using USB-C this time around, then players will have the advantage of plugging the Switch to any USB port they can find whenever they need to refuel the device while on the go.

According to Gadgets 360, the use of USB Type C for the Switch could simply mean that Nintendo is following the trend that other major tech companies are also embracing. Apple is using USB-C for its MacBook and MacBook Pro, while Google has included the USB-C port on to its Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones.

The inclusion of USB-C would be great for the highly anticipated console that per developer kit is going to launch with a 1280 x 720 6.2-inch IPS LCD display, four ARM Cortex-A57 cores that are maxed out to 2GHz and Nvidia second-generation Maxwell architecture. The developer kit also listed 4 GB RAM, 32 GB storage and USB 2.0 and 3.0 as part of the device’s specs. Since these details are from the developer kit, it is still possible for the console to come with different specs.
