UFC on ESPN 25 bonuses: Marlon Vera, Davey Grant get $50,000 for bloody rematch

The UFC handed out four $50,000 bonuses at UFC on ESPN 25, including two to a pair of bantamweights who fought in a bloody rematch.

There was plenty of competition for the “Performance of the Night” bonuses thanks to six stoppage wins, but “Fight of the Night” seemed pretty clear-cut.

Check out the bonus winners below after the event at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.

Marlon Vera (19-7-1 MMA, 11-6 UFC) and Davey Grant (11-5 MMA, 4-4 UFC) went back and forth in their rematch from a 2016 fight that Grant won. But in the second go-‘round, Vera left the Brit looking much worse for the wear with blood all over his face and the canvas. Although Grant clearly looked worse, the fight at times was a close one with Grant regularly threatening on the feet and the canvas. But by the third round, Vera had more in the tank and stayed heavy on Grant on top. With 40 seconds left, Vera had a choke on, but couldn’t finish his consistently gritty opponent. Vera won with scores of 29-27, 29-28 and 30-26.

'Performance of the Night': Matt Brown

Matt Brown (23-18 MMA, 16-12 UFC) wanted the world to know there’s nothing wrong with him now that he’s 40. After a few struggles with the leg kicks Dhiego Lima (15-9 MMA, 4-7 UFC) threw his way in the first round, Brown found a way to take those out of the equation. He launched a perfect right hand that hit Lima in the chin at the same time Lima threw a right of his own. Lima went face first into the canvas. The last nine wins of Brown’s career have been by finish. He hasn’t won a decision since 2012.

'Performance of the Night': Seungwoo Choi

Seungwoo Choi (10-3 MMA, 3-2 UFC) got his first stoppage win since 2017 when he took out Julian Erosa (25-9 MMA, 3-5 UFC) with a first-round knockout on the main card. Choi threw a right, then drilled Erosa with a left that put him on the canvas. He pounced on him quickly and landed several punches and elbows that led to the finish.
