Yahoo Finance Trump news: President pardons disgraced Michael Flynn, after insisting election should be overturned
Donald Trump has announced his latest presidential pardon: Michael Flynn. The disgraced former national security adviser pleaded guilty to the FBI during the Russian meddling investigation, but Mr Trump has now relieved the man of his charges.
The president wrote on Twitter: “It is my Great Honor to announce that General Michael T. Flynn has been granted a Full Pardon.”
This pardon is the first of others anticipated by the outgoing president prior to him leaving office. Paul Manafort, Mr Trump’s campaign chairman from 2016, and George Papadopoulos, a former foreign policy adviser to the Trump campaign, might also receive pardons.
In other news, Mr Trump’s legal team has continued their push to claim mass voter fraud occurred during the 2020 election. During a “hearing” scheduled in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, Rudy Giuliani claimed Mr Trump may have won Virginia, despite losing the state by millions of votes. The president also took time to call into the hearing and again make baseless claims of voter fraud.
“It would be easy for me to say let’s wait four years. But they cheated,” Mr Trump said about the Democrats. “These are bad people, they are horrible people, and they are people who don’t love our country.”
He added: “All we need is some judge to listen to it properly without some political opinion.”
In a stark contrast to the sitting president, Mr Biden delivered an address on Wednesday ahead of Thanksgiving that pleaded for Americans to draw on “faith, courage and sacrifice” this holiday season.
“Service to country, service to each other, and gratitude in the face of suffering have long been part of what Thanksgiving means in America,” he said in remarks from Delaware.
“We find ourselves again facing a long hard winter,” he added. “I know the country has grown weary of the fight … We’re at war with the virus, not with one another.”
