Troy Hagen retiring as Regina police chief

Troy Hagen retiring as Regina police chief

After eight years as the city's top cop, Regina Police Chief Troy Hagen is stepping down.

Hagen, 58, announced Thursday he's retiring effective Aug. 12.

He's been on the force for more than 37 years. He's been chief since 2008.

"The biggest reward, throughout my entire career, has probably been the fact that, I think, in my own way I've contributed to our community," Hagen said Thursday. "The sense and feeling of giving back, for me, is something I thrive on."

He added that he took great pride in the work he did.

"I've always gone home at night and wake up and, as my dad used to say, look [at myself] in the mirror in the morning," he said. "I can do that feeling good that I've done my best for the right reasons, despite maybe some people not thinking I have. I can live with that."

Regina Mayor Michael Fougere said the city's police commission will start looking for a new police chief soon.
