Yahoo Finance Top 2019 trends Canadians are buying on Etsy this season
While Etsy is best known for finding kitschy treasures (Grey’s Anatomy-scented candle, anyone?) and beautifully crafted unique engagement rings, shoppers worldwide also continue to utilize the online market place to score big on one-of-kind twists on the hottest fashion, wellness and home goods trends of the year. Of course, because there’s no questioning the value of homemade goods.
Here, Dayna Isom Johnson, Etsy Trend Expert shares with us the top searches Canadians are shopping for this season.
Whether you’re shopping for yourself or for someone else, here are the trends to shop for.
Burnt orange
“At the end of last year, I predicted that burnt orange would be the official colour of 2019, and the interest for this sun-kissed hue is still going strong. The desert-inspired shade is grounding, earthy and the perfect colour to add into your fall wardrobe through accessories, jewellery, or a full head-to-toe look,” says Johnson.
Searches for ‘burnt orange’ on Etsy Canada has seen a 1,691 per cent increase since last year.

“There’s no denying it: ‘90s hair accessories are in the middle of a major comeback moment. Some of the biggest revivals we’re seeing are chunky barrettes, hair clips and the scrunchy - seen here in a variety of colours, textures and patterns.”
Etsy Canada has seen a 63 per cent increase in searched for “hair clips” while
“scrunchies” have seen a whopping increase of 366 per cent.

“The resurgence of ‘90s trends shows no signs of slowing down and one of our favourites is tie-dye. We’re seeing it on everything from clothing to accessories and home decor but unlike the tie-dye of decades past, this new approach feels more sophisticated – 2019’s tie-dye uses lighter hues and pastels for a more muted take on the print.”
There has been a 154% increase in searches on Etsy Canada for “tie-dye” items in the last three months.

There has been a 71% increase in searches on Etsy Canada for “peel and stick wallpaper” in the last three months.

“Sustainable” and/or “eco-friendly” items has seen an increase of 55 per cent in search compared to last year.
