Those Who Purchased MedX Health (CVE:MDX) Shares Three Years Ago Have A 59% Loss To Show For It

Investing in stocks inevitably means buying into some companies that perform poorly. But the long term shareholders of MedX Health Corp (CVE:MDX) have had an unfortunate run in the last three years. Unfortunately, they have held through a 59% decline in the share price in that time. The more recent news is of little comfort, with the share price down 39% in a year. Even worse, it's down 14% in about a month, which isn't fun at all.

We don't think MedX Health's revenue of CA$899,506 is enough to establish significant demand. We can't help wondering why it's publicly listed so early in its journey. Are venture capitalists not interested? As a result, we think it's unlikely shareholders are paying much attention to current revenue, but rather speculating on growth in the years to come. It seems likely some shareholders believe that MedX Health will significantly advance the business plan before too long.

As a general rule, if a company doesn't have much revenue, and it loses money, then it is a high risk investment. You should be aware that there is always a chance that this sort of company will need to issue more shares to raise money to continue pursuing its business plan. While some companies like this go on to deliver on their plan, making good money for shareholders, many end in painful losses and eventual de-listing. MedX Health has already given some investors a taste of the bitter losses that high risk investing can cause.

Our data indicates that MedX Health had CA$2.7m more in total liabilities than it had cash, when it last reported in June 2019. That makes it extremely high risk, in our view. But with the share price diving 26% per year, over 3 years , it's probably fair to say that some shareholders no longer believe the company will succeed. In reality it's hard to have much certainty when valuing a business that has neither revenue or profit. Would it bother you if insiders were selling the stock? I'd like that just about as much as I like to drink milk and fruit juice mixed together. You can click here to see if there are insiders selling.

A Different Perspective

Investors in MedX Health had a tough year, with a total loss of 39%, against a market gain of about 12%. Even the share prices of good stocks drop sometimes, but we want to see improvements in the fundamental metrics of a business, before getting too interested. On the bright side, long term shareholders have made money, with a gain of 4.8% per year over half a decade. If the fundamental data continues to indicate long term sustainable growth, the current sell-off could be an opportunity worth considering.
