The Results Are In! The Safest and Most Peaceful Country For Travel Is ...
When most people think of Iceland, they think of, well, ice. And blue lagoons. And frigid temperatures. And stunning views. But now, there’s one more attraction to add to the list: It’s also the safest and most peaceful country in the world.

The Institute of Economics and Peace recently revealed the Global Peace Index, which is a report that ranks 162 countries around the world in terms of safety and peacefulness, according to MailOnline.

To get the results, the Institute analyzes 23 characteristics in each country — violent crime levels, political terror, weapons import and export and prison population, to name a few — and then assigns each country a score. Scores go from one to five, with one being the highest — and Iceland got a 1.148.

Next up after Iceland? Denmark, with a score of 1.150, followed by Austria, which came in at 1.198. In comparison, the U.S. came in 94th (ouch), with a super low score of 2.038. And the most violent country in the world right now is Syria, with the lowest score of all, 3.645.
