Tesla is unveiling a new product on April 30

According to Tesla CEO Elon Musk, there is a new product (not a car!) coming on April 30.

On the company's earnings call in February, Musk said "We are going to unveil the Tesla home battery, the consumer battery that would be for use in people's houses or businesses fairly soon," according to Bloomberg.

Business Insider's Jay Yarow noted that on the same call Tesla CTO JB Straubel said the company would likely hold an event "in a month or two" to announce this product.

Straubel added that this would likely be available in six months.

In afternoon trade on Monday following the news, Tesla shares were up about 2% after having spent the whole day in the red.

Last week, Tesla shares made new lows for 2015 and bringing its year-to-date losses to more than 15%.
