Sweden’s Arvet Agency Options 9 Lars Wilderäng Books For English-Language Film, TV & Game Adaptations

EXCLUSIVE: Arvet Agency, the Stockholm-based production company, has optioned a collection of books by the author Lars Wilderäng and is planning a string of English-language film, TV and game adaptations.

Swedish author Wilderäng writes across a variety of genres including sci-fi, cyber punk, techno-thriller, political thriller and more. He has sold more than 500,000 books in his native country and his work has been translated into several languages. His novels are published by Massolit and Norstedts Publishing AB.

The deal encompasses titles including: The Drop; Marviken Accounting Department; The Darkness of Midwinter; The Dawn of Midsummer; The Star Trilogy (Starlit, Starfall, Stardust); Autumn Sun; and Autumn Rain.

Grace Maharaj, the head of Arvet Agency, commented that she hoped to exploit the IP across multiple formats:

“The gaming space is a thriving global market. It was worth $90BN in 2020 and is estimated to be over $200BN by 2025. It is the fastest growing sector of the entertainment industry,” she said. “Technology and content are constantly evolving and IP from books developed into film/TV and games/immersive media, are going to merge more and more. It is obvious to me that this will be a big part of content development in the streaming space and therefore makes business sense in an acquisition such as this one.”

“Lars Wilderäng has the ability to write in a wide range of genres where he weaves themes such as security, finance, technology, sci-fi-survival and prepping genres in the context of our everyday life,” continued Maharaj. “He dares to boldly explore themes that are no-go zones when asking questions through his characters’ story arcs and the plots. He has a voice and followers.”

“It will be very exciting to get the chance to see my books made into film, television series and games,” added Wilderäng. “I especially look forward to seeing the adaptations of my two most recent novels, Fallet (The Drop) and Redovisningsbyrån Marviken (Marviken Accounting Department). A book like Redovisningsbyrån Marviken I’ve never seen done and by using modern film techniques it would be spectacular.”

The deal was negotiated by Catherine Mörk of Norstedts Publishing and Jens Göthberg of Desert Business AB for Arvet Agency AB.
