Suspected DUI driver knocks out traffic lights along busy Fresno streets, police say

A man was under the influence when he crashed his car and knocked out power at two busy central Fresno intersections late Thursday, police said.

The Thanksgiving day crash was reported just after 7 p.m. at Abby Street and Olive Avenue, according to Fresno police Lt. Sean Biggs.

Biggs said officers learned that a man in his 20s was driving a silver Honda north on Abby when he ran a red light at the intersection. The Honda crashed into a vehicle going west on Olive. The two vehicles veered to the northwest corner, where they collided with a utility box, causing the traffic lights to shut down at Abby Street and Olive Avenue, and Olive and Blackstone avenues.

The man driving the Honda was evaluated by officers and arrested for DUI. Both drivers only had minor injuries, according to police.

Officers were unsure when the traffic lights would be restored and warned drivers to be cautious traveling in the intersections of Abby Street and Olive Avenue and Olive and Blackstone avenues.
