Susan Boyle has said there is "light at the end of the tunnel" after receiving the first coronavirus vaccine.

On Friday, the Britain's Got Talent star posted a photo of herself giving a thumbs up with one hand while her other held a vaccine information pack.

She urged her social media followers to get their jab when offered while noting that disinformation had been rife.

"Monday felt for the first time like there is light at the end of the tunnel," the 59-year-old wrote.

"There is so much disinformation surrounding the vaccine but I encourage you to go out and get the vaccine when it’s available to you.

"I am grateful for science and grateful for medicine and especially grateful to the wonderful NHS nurses and doctors, thank you."

It comes as the singer is set to celebrate a milestone birthday next month as she turns 60 years old on 1 April.

Like mosts artists, Boyle has had work interrupted due to the coronavirus pandemic.

ITV said at the time: "Susan, unfortunately, couldn’t appear on Britain’s Got Talent as her area in Scotland as in a tier 4 category, (the highest tier of COVID-19 restrictions) at the time of filming and she felt it prudent to stay at home and not breach the order by travelling to London.”

Boyle resides in her hometown of Blackburn, West Lothian and still lives in the house she grew up in, a former council property she now owns.
