'Super Mario Run' For Android Arriving In March
Nintendo’s “Super Mario Run” has been available for Apple’s iOS devices for over a month now and Android device users are still waiting for its release. Earlier today, Nintendo officially announced that its mobile game might not arrive for Android until March 2017.
“The Android version of ‘Super Mario Run’ will be delivered in March 2017,” Nintendo said on Twitter (translated from Japanese). The company also reminded fans that they can sign up on the Google Play Store to pre-register for the game in order to receive a notification once it is available.
“Super Mario Run” was first unveiled back in September 2016 during Apple’s iPhone 7 event. It launched for iOS devices on Dec. 15 for free, but players would have to pay $9.99 in order to unlock the full game. The free version of the game only allows users to play through three levels.
Just four days after its launch, “Super Mario Run” garnered 40 million downloads from the Apple App Store. The game has since become the fastest-selling iOS game in the history of the Apple App Store, according to CNET.
Although “Super Mario Run” for Android won’t be out until March, at least Android users have something else to look forward to until then. Nintendo also confirmed today that its next mobile game, “Fire Emblem: Heroes,” will be heading to both iOS and Android devices on Feb. 2. The initial announcement listed the iOS version game as arriving “soon,” but Nintendo has clarified that it will launch simultaneously with the Android version.
“Fire Emblem: Heroes” is a strategy RPG game where players take the role of a summoner from the kingdom of Askr who will need to gather allies to fight with. “Players will wage tactical battles streamlined for on-the-go play and level up a mix of new combatants and legendary heroes. Some familiar hero characters will become allies, while others will become enemy generals,” Nintendo said on its website.
