Yahoo Finance The Suicide Squad star lands lead role as Joey Ramone in Netflix film
The Suicide Squad and Saturday Night Live star Pete Davidson has landed in a big role in Netflix's Joey Ramone biopic I Slept with Joey Ramone, playing Joey Ramone.
The legendary musician was one of the godfathers of the punk rock movement with his band The Ramones, who formed in 1974 and split in 1996, five years before the star's death from lymphoma.
During their time, the band pioneered a sound the many imitated, while Joey himself became a style icon and idol for rebellious teenagers the world over.

The biopic is being made with the full backing of Joey Ramone's remaining family members. In fact, his brother Mickey Leigh wrote the memoir of the same name that the film is based on.
STXfilms chairman Adam Fogelson told Variety that: "When you share a bed with someone — and not just a bed, but a childhood, a family, and a lifetime — you know that person better than anybody else.
"Mickey Leigh not only collaborated with his big brother’s band — he has irreplaceable memories of and insights into Joey Ramone, having supported him when no one else would and witnessed him overcome adversity in the most dramatic way.

"I Slept with Joey Ramone is a great rock anthem that will make an equally great rock biopic, set apart by a universal story of family."
Davidson is writing the script with the film's director, Jason Orley, who helmed Davidson's previous film Big Time Adolescence. Mickey Leigh is serving as executive producer.
