Stocks in play: Canadian Utilities

Announced third-quarter 2019 adjusted earnings of $106 million, or $0.39 per share, compared to $132 million, or $0.49 per share, in the third quarter of 2018. Lower earnings in the third quarter of 2019 were mainly due to favorable earnings realized in the third quarter of 2018 associated with the Balancing Pool’s termination of the Battle River unit 5 PPA and associated availability incentive and performance payments. The Pipelines & Liquids business adjusted earnings in the third quarter of 2019 were $2 million higher than the same period in 2018, mainly due to ongoing growth in the regulated rate base and lower income taxes. Canadian Utilities shares T.CU are trading up $0.06 at $38.36.
