Stellantis, GM furlough another 664 workers in Michigan due to UAW strike
(Reuters) -Chrysler-parent Stellantis said on Tuesday it was temporarily laying off another 525 workers in Michigan and General Motors is furloughing 139 workers in Ohio due to the United Auto Workers strike.
The affected Stellantis workers are at two stamping plants that provide parts for its Sterling Heights, Michigan, assembly plant, which builds the RAM 1500, after 6,800 workers went on strike from the plant earlier this week. The Italian-American automaker now has 2,045 employees on temporary layoff due to the strike that began on Sept. 15.
GM said that, starting Wednesday, 139 workers in Parma, Ohio will be furloughed because of a new strike announced Tuesday by the UAW at GM's Arlington, Texas, assembly plant. GM said it has furloughed 2,460 workers since the strike began.
