After dabbling in Frappuccinos and hot chocolate that mimic all kinds of popular desserts-snickerdoodle, s'mores, double fudge bar-Starbucks is kicking off 2017 with a more highbrow addition to its lineup: the Cascara Latte.

Meaning "husk" or "shell" in Spanish, Cascara is a reference to the outer layer of the coffee bean. The new drink will be made with the actual fruit of the coffee cherry, the brand announced during its Dec. 7 Investor Day.

But what does it taste like? According to Starbucks, the new latte will be subtly sweet with "notes of dark brown sugar and maple."

Last fall, the baristas at the Roastery in Seattle were challenged to come up with a drink using the ingredient. The competition-and tasters' love of the drink itself-inspired the brand to make it the next limited-edition drink, serving it in cafes nationwide this January.

It will hit stores around the same time as another Roastery invention, the Smoked Butterscotch Latte (also coming back for a limited time), and a whole new protein-rich snack: Sous Vide Egg Bites. The snacks look a lot like Pinterest-fave muffin tin frittatas, and are being touted as a low-calorie, wheat-free breakfast to add to the brand's lineup of egg sandwiches and wraps.

They're just one more reason to look forward to the year ahead.
