Starbucks Brings Back Its Halloween Frappuccino for One Week Only

You thought it was gone for good. But one year later, almost to the day, it's baaaack! No, we're not talking Freddy Kreuger or some kind of zombie-creating rage virus. It's Starbucks' Halloween-themed Frappuccino, the Frappula.

This year's version features mocha sauce, a dollop of whipped cream, mocha Frappuccino, and a drizzle of strawberry puree around the rim, which swirls into the drink, creating a dripping-blood-meets-trendy-ombre effect.

You can only officially get it in stores through Halloween, but all of the key ingredients are available year-round, so if you tell a barista exactly what you're looking for, you might just be able to score a cup on Nov. 1.

Starbucks may have cornered the market on the ultimate fall drink, but that doesn't mean the brand's resting on its Pumpkin Spice-dusted laurels. This Wednesday, stores across the U.S. and Canada will be offering a Halloween-themed Frappuccino-and you can only get it through All Hallow's Eve.

It's called the Frappula. Yup, as in Dracula, or the frosty beverage we'd imagine Edward Cullen sipping when he's not pining for Bella or, say, a pint of O Negative in Twilight: Life After Everybody Stopped Trying to Kill Us.

The ombré-layered drink has an inky layer of mocha sauce at the bottom, then whipped cream, followed by a white chocolate mocha core, which serves as the base of the drink. Raspberry syrup is drizzled around the inner rim of the cup, giving it that dripping-blood effect, and the whole thing's topped with a swirl of whipped cream, because a Frappuccino is hardly a Frappuccino without it.

This release is one of several changes at Starbucks this fall. The Frappula hits stores just one week after the brand announced another limited-edition flavor, Beast Mode, though the double-mocha-mint-protein-powder drink (named after the Seattle Seahawks' Marshawn Lynch) is only available in Washington and in Lynch's hometown of Oakland, CA. It also gave the world a sneak peek at this winter's holiday red cup design, is adding video screens to its drive thrus at 2,400 cafés, and quietly inducted its first class of members to its Orange Sleeve Society for PSL aficionados. Oh, and don't forget its first new fall latte in four years, Toasted Graham.

Though the Frappula is technically only offered at Starbucks for four days this week, its core ingredients are all sold in other drinks year-round, so if you ask nicely enough, your barista may be able to replicate it after Oct. 31.
