Stocks in the green today include Stemline Therapeutics after the FDA granted Breakthrough status for its acute myeloid leukemia treatment, software maker Tableau as it appointed former Amazon exec Adam Selipsky as its new CEO, and Monsanto – shares of the seed and chemical-maker growing after Bloomberg reported Bayer and Monsanto were working on an improved takeover bid.

Looking ahead

  • At 10 AM Eastern we’ll get existing home sales for July. Economists are expecting a seasonally adjusted rate of 5.52 million homes sold, a slight downtick from the prior month.

  • Later in the day we’ll get a big jolt to the oil market with EIA’s crude inventory report. Last week we actually saw a drawdown of 2.5 million barrels.

  • And tomorrow night – Heavy Metal fans – think you have that guitar solo nailed down? Masters in the art of air guitar will be leaving their basements for the grand stage, shredding at the Air Guitar World Championships in Oulu, Finland. The Grand Final will feature the winners of national competitions from across the globe. Here you can see 2015 Champion Kereel “Your Daddy” Blumenkrants of Russia tearing up last year’s championship.
