'SNL': Kate McKinnon's Dr. Fauci hosts game show where contestants vie for COVID-19 vaccine

Can't wait to get the COVID-19 vaccine? "Saturday Night Live" has a competition you might be interested in.

This week's episode of the sketch show opened with a skit that saw Dr. Anthony Fauci (Kate McKinnon) host a game show called "So You Think You Can Get the Vaccine?" in which vaccine hopefuls pled their case for why they're worthy of the shot.

The logic for rolling out the vaccine via game show? Well, as McKinnon's Fauci explained: "Americans will only want to get it if someone else can’t."

Similar to other reality competitions, contestants had to earn the approval of three stern judges – Calif. Gov. Gavin Newsom (Alex Moffat), New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (Pete Davidson) and Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (Cecily Strong).

Several people stepped up to get the vaccine, to no avail. When a pregnant woman (Melissa Villaseñor) asked if she can get the vaccine, Davidson's Cuomo replied, "I don't know, can you?"

"No, that wasn’t a grammar thing," he added. "We genuinely have no idea.”

After many contestants, including Texas Sen. Ted Cruz (Aidy Bryant), pleaded their cases, one grandpa (Mikey Day) finally earned approval from the politicians. There was one problem: The elderly man can't get vaccinated until he makes an appointment online.

Davidson's Cuomo offered the man, who uses his computer mainly for spider solitaire, advice.

“But, if you do feel sick, make sure you leave the nursing home and get to the hospital! Wink," he said.

This week's "SNL" was hosted by Nick Jonas, who also doubled as musical guest. The artist was last on the show in 2019 where he reunited with his former band The Jonas Brothers for the trio's first return to the program since 2009.
