Surprise! Ashton Kutcher Is A Dwolla Investor

Based in Des Moines, Iowa, Dwolla is a lean startup that wants to kill credit cards. It's doing so well, it had investors squabbling over its latest round of financing.

In the end, Union Square Ventures swooped in to lead it. Josh Kushner of Thrive Capital got a piece of the pie; so did Betterworks founder Paige Craig, Marc Ecko and Village Ventures.

The startup could have raised a monster round at a ridiculous valuation, but it opted to keep things modest and take $5 million.

And because the company is so modest, it left one of the investors off its press release. The investor is a big name and Dwolla didn't want press to focus on him when it released the news.

Sources tell us Ashton Kutcher, an Iowa native, is the mystery investor.

Dwolla has not responded to our request for comment.
