Science Applications Wins Naval Contract

Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC), a leading technology integrator, was awarded a major task order, worth roughly $35 million, by the Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center.

Per the task order, SAIC will provide a range of training services to the program offices under Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center Pacific's (SSC Pacific) Training Development and Support Center. SSC Pacific provides the U.S. Navy with full life cycle support and information resources to support the joint warfighters in mission execution and force protection.

The Task Order

The task order has an indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity clause, and consists of a three-year period of performance. SAIC will compete with three other awardees for the multiple-award, cost-plus-fixed-fee contract. The work will primarily be executed in San Diego, CA.

SAIC’s Services

SAIC is an established firm in holding naval training exercises and has numerous long-term contracts for training the U.S. naval forces.

The company’s training program provides a cost-efficient, repeatable environment to meet the U.S. Navy’s individual training requirements. Its exercises involve synthetic training scenarios and mission-critical tasks in order to mimic live events, sharpening the personnel’s command-and-control warfare skills, while saving the U.S. Navy millions of dollars every year.

In October last year, SAIC segregated its engineering, technical and enterprise IT services business in order to eliminate government organizational conflict of interest. The split-off resulted in a new $6 billion technology company known as Leidos Holdings, Inc. (LDOS).

Post sequestration, SAIC appears streamlined and focused on harnessing its rich domain knowledge and client relationships to facilitate the delivery of systems engineering and integration services for comprehensive government and commercial projects. A leading pure-play technical service provider to the U.S. government, SAIC is the chief contractor on 91% of premier federal contract vehicles.

SAIC currently holds a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold). Some better-ranked stocks in the Computer and Technology sector include j2 Global, Inc. (JCOM), Datalink Corporation (DTLK) and Juniper Networks, Inc. (JNPR). All of these stocks carry a Zacks Rank #1(Strong Buy).
