‘Scarface’ Producer Martin Bregman Re-Lists Manhattan Co-op at Higher Price

SELLER: Martin Bregman
LOCATION: New York City, NY
PRICE: $9,999,000
SIZE: (approx.) 4,000 square feet, 4 bedrooms, 4.5 bathrooms

YOUR MAMA’S NOTES: Martin Bregman, the nonagenarian ‘Scarface’ producer credited for discovering and shepherding the early career of Al Pacino and nominated for an Oscar in 1976 for the superbly taut “Dog Day Afternoon,” put his suburban macmansion-sized apartment on New York City’s Park Avenue up for sale late last year (2015) with an asking price of $8,999,000. The price quickly and precipitously dropped to $7.9 million before it was taken off the market in early June only to come back up for sale, we first learned from the eagle eyed property gossips at Luxury Listings, at $9,999,000, a stunning two-plus million dollar mark up from its last asking price. The four-bedroom and 4.5-bathroom apartment, “designed to showcase classical European style with modern Manhattan sensibility” according to marketing materials and saddled with hefty monthly maintenance charges of $7,691, can alternatively be rented at a rate of $20,000 per month.

The approximately 4,000-square-foot apartment has an always en vogue private elevator landing that opens to a elegantly ample entrance gallery that extends to nearly 30 feet in length. The parquet-floored formal living room is anchored by a decorative fireplace set between over-sized multi-pane sash windows; the formal dining room comfortably seats at least a dozen diners; and the library, wrapped in carved wood paneling, offers a wet bar and movie projection system with a hidden screen that drops from the ceiling at the touch of a button. A butler’s pantry links the dining room to the eat-in kitchen that features custom, glass-fronted Shaker style cabinets and up-to-date appliances that include a commercial-grade range with dedicated grill top. In addition to a pair of en suite guest bedrooms there’s a cell-sized staff bedroom/home office along with a bathroom and laundry room tucked up behind the kitchen. The master suite, positioned for maximum privacy at the extreme rear of the apartment has a second decorative fireplace and is furnished with a canopied bed decked out with a saucy mirrored ceiling out of which drops a flat-screen television. We counted three walk-in closets on the floor plan plus two dressing rooms and two marble accented and excessively mirrored bathrooms that allow a person to view his or her self from almost any angle including several that one might prefer not to view one’s corporeal self.

The Bregman apartment is situated on a middle floor of a stately, limestone-faced 14-story apartment house that was designed by celebrated architect Emery Roth and built in 1917, is surrounded by a sleek collection of glass-walled modernist office towers, and offers if few financially well-endowed residents, who include Calvin Klein Women’s Creative Director Francisco Costa, white glove services such as uniformed full-time doormen.
