Sands Charts Its Corporate Responsibility Course With New 2025 Ambitions

Northampton, MA --News Direct-- Las Vegas Sands

In the recently published 2021 Environmental, Social and Governance Report, Sands outlined three primary ambitions the company will target after completing assessment of its corporate responsibility initiatives and the material issues the company addresses.

Out of that examination, Sands solidified three priority commitments to achieve by 2025 – one for each of its corporate responsibility pillars of People, Communities and Planet:

People: Sands will invest $200 million in workforce development by 2025 to enable career progression for Team Members and advancement of the talent pool in the hospitality industry. Sands established this goal to support its People pillar focus on empowering career and business growth to promote advancement and create a thriving local industry in its regions.

Communities: Sands will enable Team Members to contribute 150,000 volunteer hours by 2025 in support of the communities that host the company’s integrated resorts and corporate operations. Investments in Team Member volunteerism through the company’s community engagement program Sands Cares focus on addressing hardship relief, local business and partner development, cultural and natural heritage, disaster response and preparedness, and education – in line with the company’s priority focus areas in local communities.

Planet: Sands will target a 17.5% reduction in emissions by 2025 from a 2018 baseline aligned with a science-based target methodology. This goal aligns with the company’s focus on transitioning to low-carbon solutions, advancing energy efficiency and integrating renewable energy sources to address climate change.

“These ambitions represent the areas where we believe Sands can make the greatest impact,” said Katarina Tesarova, senior vice president and chief sustainability officer. “Though we cover a variety of topics under our People, Communities and Planet pillars, we are charting a course to achieve these ambitions because we believe they will truly address what is important to our stakeholders and our business.”

Sands’ 2021 ESG Report also outlined areas of impact the company has made in each of its pillars:

People: Demonstrating a culture of advancement and opportunity, nearly 15,000 Sands Team members have 10 or more years of service, and the company facilitated nearly 1,300 promotions in 2021.

Communities: Sands supported 175 nonprofit organizations in 2021 with charitable investments, program support and volunteer engagement. Nearly 3,400 Sands Team Members volunteered their time and expertise to extend the company’s impact in local communities.

Planet: Sands spent $62 million in support of sustainable products and services in 2021 and currently has active partnerships with 26 environmental organizations.
