Samsung Will Update Galaxy S7 And Galaxy S7 Edge With Android 7.1.1 Nougat

The new glossy black color for the Galaxy S7 is pretty much like Apple's jet black iPhone 7.

Amid testing the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge for its Android Nougat updates, Samsung has confirmed to beta testers that the handsets will receive Android 7.1.1 when the official software is available.

A member at XDA developers shared with the forum a conversation with a Samsung representative within the Galaxy Beta Program, which indicates the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge will update to Android 7.1.1. So far, users and pundits alike were under the impression that the devices would update to version 7.0. So far, Google has released its next Pixel smartphones running Android 7.1 and recently rolled out version 7.1.1 to address some bugs and add features not included in the original Nougat release.

While Android 7.1.1 is a minor update for devices already running Nougat, the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge are coming from Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow, meaning the devices should see significant changes.

Currently, Samsung is running its third version of Android Nougat beta software on the Galaxy S7. The software includes a number of tweaks specific to Samsung devices. The Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge could update to Android 7.1.1 Nougat as early as mid-December for some models. Most models are expected to update in early 2017.
