Safety and Driver Assistance
Safety and Driver Assistance Rating:
*Due to lack of NHTSA and IIHS crash testing.
Since the EcoSport has not yet been crash-tested by either testing agency, we cannot rate its safety. While the Ford lacks advanced assists such as automated emergency braking and adaptive cruise control, the features that are available align with most competitors.
Crash Test Results
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the nonprofit, independent Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) evaluate vehicles for crashworthiness in the United States. NHTSA assigns cars an overall rating out of five stars. IIHS uses a different set of tests, grades cars on a scale of Good to Poor, and awards the vehicles that perform best across its tests with Top Safety Pick or Top Safety Pick+ honors, the latter of which requires that the subject’s automated forward-collision-braking system performs well.

Airbags, Child Seats, and Spare Tire Location
We installed a rear-facing child seat in the EcoSport and found that connecting the LATCH anchors to the seat was difficult. The child seat also cut into front-seat legroom. At least the base of the child seat was level, and we were able to easily lift the cradle in and out of the back seat.
Active-Safety Features
While base models miss out on active-safety options, the rest of the EcoSport lineup has standard rear parking sensors. Likewise, blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are also available. But those are the pinnacle of high tech on this hatchback. A backup camera is also standard, but the size and quality of the image vary among the center screens.
