Recipe Unlimited Corporation (TSE:RECP) Insiders Increased Their Holdings

We've lost count of how many times insiders have accumulated shares in a company that goes on to improve markedly. On the other hand, we'd be remiss not to mention that insider sales have been known to precede tough periods for a business. So before you buy or sell Recipe Unlimited Corporation (TSE:RECP), you may well want to know whether insiders have been buying or selling.

What Is Insider Buying?

It's quite normal to see company insiders, such as board members, trading in company stock, from time to time. However, rules govern insider transactions, and certain disclosures are required.

We would never suggest that investors should base their decisions solely on what the directors of a company have been doing. But logic dictates you should pay some attention to whether insiders are buying or selling shares. For example, a Harvard University study found that 'insider purchases earn abnormal returns of more than 6% per year.'

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Recipe Unlimited

Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider purchase was by Executive Chairman of the Board William Gregson for CA$221k worth of shares, at about CA$23.36 per share. That implies that an insider found the current price of CA$26.75 per share to be enticing. While their view may have changed since the purchase was made, this does at least suggest they have had confidence in the company's future. If someone buys shares at well below current prices, it's a good sign on balance, but keep in mind they may no longer see value. The good news for Recipe Unlimited share holders is that an insider was buying at near the current price. William Gregson was the only individual insider to buy over the year.

Recipe Unlimited is not the only stock that insiders are buying. For those who like to find winning investments this free list of growing companies with recent insider purchasing, could be just the ticket.

Insider Ownership

Many investors like to check how much of a company is owned by insiders. Usually, the higher the insider ownership, the more likely it is that insiders will be incentivised to build the company for the long term. Recipe Unlimited insiders own about CA$35m worth of shares. That equates to 2.2% of the company. This level of insider ownership is good but just short of being particularly stand-out. It certainly does suggest a reasonable degree of alignment.

So What Does This Data Suggest About Recipe Unlimited Insiders?

It doesn't really mean much that no insider has traded Recipe Unlimited shares in the last quarter. On a brighter note, the transactions over the last year are encouraging. Overall we don't see anything to make us think Recipe Unlimited insiders are doubting the company, and they do own shares. Of course, the future is what matters most.
