UPDATED-Rams Notebook: Inside the Hotel California

Los Angeles Rams
Los Angeles Rams

Finally, the Rams are heading into Training Camp in Southern California for the first time in 22 years. Think its been a quiet week? Think again. This last week of the offseason saw the end of Nick Foles in L.A., news on Tr’e Mason, another St. Louis snub courtesy of COO Kevin Demoff, and a timely look at Case Keenum and his thoughts on the QB situation in 2016.

So, for one last time this offseason, lets look at the past week.

Rams Notebook

Will Jeff Fisher be smart enough to get Jared Goff ready for week 1 of the NFL season? It is really anyone’s guess. I think it is 50/50 whether that happens. Remember, this is the guy who has said since back in March, that Case Keenum is the guy in L.A. We’ll find out soon enough.

When crazy begets crazy, you have a problem. Tr’e Mason, Los Angeles wayward running back has passed the threshold where playing football isn’t the elixir. It’s part of the problem, and Los Angeles needs it to NOT be their problem any longer.

It is an impossible task to try and figure where this team may finish 2016. I think .500 is a reach, but is possible if the team can climb out of the box labeled “Conventional Wisdom”. We’ll see if they have the imagination to build a program better than below the Mendoza Line.

Say what you want about Case Keenum, but he’s walking and talking the role of a veteran quarterback as the Rams prepare for training camp. But deep down, and I mean really deep down, he knows that he is only holding the place of Jared Goff. Fair or not, Keenum get’s what his gig is, and it’s being #2.

It’s almost August, the last major in golf, the PGA will be in the books come Sunday, and the Chicago Cubs might, MIGHT be on the verge of winning a World Series. Oh yes, and the team is back in Los Angeles after a 21 year hiatus.

Jeff Fisher has been public about ‘parking’ his rookie quarterback in favor of a veteran player. That’s Fisher being Fisher. That said, Jared Goff is doing all the right things you’d expect of the guy you drafted to lead your football team. hipefully the head coach gets it, and gets it soon.

1-Tr’e Mason gone missing

The situation with running back Tr’e Mason seems to be going from bad to worse. The no-no has prompted the organization to place Mason on the ‘Reserve/Did Not Report’ list. Predictable might be the best way to describe where things are currently, given a rash of bizarre behavior this offseason, including an arrest back in March. I’ll update as more information becomes available.

2-Rams draw big number day 1

No surprise, but a HUGE turnout of fans showed up to greet the team as they began a new era of Rams football in Los Angeles. Approximately 10,000 or so were estimated at the UC Irvine complex where the team will be training.

3-Former Ram killed in home

Former NFL player Antonio Armstrong and his wife were shot and killed in their home on Friday. Armstrong, who played briefly for the team, was an All-American linebacker at Texas A&M and a sixth-round draft pick of the 49ers in 1995.
