Usually, when one insider buys stock, it might not be a monumental event. But when multiple insiders are buying like they did in the case of Sureserve Group plc (LON:SUR), that sends out a positive message to the company's shareholders.

While insider transactions are not the most important thing when it comes to long-term investing, we do think it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing.

Check out our latest analysis for Sureserve Group

Sureserve Group Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider purchase was by Independent Non-Executive Chairman Nicholas Winks for UK£82k worth of shares, at about UK£0.82 per share. So it's clear an insider wanted to buy, at around the current price, which is UK£0.90. While their view may have changed since the purchase was made, this does at least suggest they have had confidence in the company's future. If someone buys shares at well below current prices, it's a good sign on balance, but keep in mind they may no longer see value. The good news for Sureserve Group share holders is that insiders were buying at near the current price.

Sureserve Group insiders may have bought shares in the last year, but they didn't sell any. Sureserve Group Insiders Bought Stock Recently

There was some insider buying at Sureserve Group over the last quarter. Independent Non-Executive Chairman Nicholas Winks purchased UK£18k worth of shares in that period. We like it when there are only buyers, and no sellers. But the amount invested in the last three months isn't enough for us too put much weight on it, as a single factor.

Does Sureserve Group Boast High Insider Ownership?

I like to look at how many shares insiders own in a company, to help inform my view of how aligned they are with insiders. Usually, the higher the insider ownership, the more likely it is that insiders will be incentivised to build the company for the long term. Our data indicates that Sureserve Group insiders own about UK£4.8m worth of shares (which is 3.3% of the company). However, it's possible that insiders might have an indirect interest through a more complex structure. Whilst better than nothing, we're not overly impressed by these holdings.

So What Do The Sureserve Group Insider Transactions Indicate?

Our data shows a little insider buying, but no selling, in the last three months. That said, the purchases were not large. On a brighter note, the transactions over the last year are encouraging. While we have no worries about the insider transactions, we'd be more comfortable if they owned more Sureserve Group stock.
