How Prince Louis' first day at nursery photo compares to Prince George and Princess Charlotte's

It's a big month for HRH Prince Louis Arthur Charles of Cambridge (as he's known in his fancy circles). Not only does he turn a big THREE years old today, he also started nursery for the first time last week. Yup, the littlest Cambridge kid is growing up.

In a post shared on the @KensingtonRoyal Instagram account last night ahead of his birthday, Prince William and Kate Middleton shared a photograph of Louis on his push-bike. "Three tomorrow!" wrote the caption, along with a little bike emoji. It continued: "Taken earlier this week by The Duchess before he left for his first day of nursery, The Duke and Duchess are pleased to share a new image of Prince Louis."

So that's it, he's taken the first step towards flying the nest and is officially now at pre-school, just as his siblings Prince George and Princess Charlotte did a few years ago. Prince Louis is believed to be going to the same nursery as his sister, Willcocks Nursery School in South Kensington, although he's starting a little later than Charlotte did. Due to COVID, it seems William and Kate - who were in lockdown at their Sandringham home for the first few months of the year - made the decision to enrol Louis in April as opposed to January, as was likely originally planned.

It's always a momentous occasion, seeing a royal 'first day at nursery/school' photo, so how does Prince Louis' compare to his older siblings'?

Prince George's first day at nursery was all the way back in January 2016 (he's in year three now, if you can believe it), and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge shared an adorable snap (taken by Kate, of course) of their first child all wrapped up in a navy quilted coat for the occasion. In the picture, a toddling Prince George (who was only two-and-a-half at the time) had a backpack almost twice his size on his back, and was seen standing in front of a mural outside his new pre-school.

As the family lived permanently at Anmer Hall on the Sandringham Estate at the time (Prince William worked for the East Anglian Air Ambulance), little George was sent to the Westacre Montessori. He stayed there for a year-and-a-half before the family moved back to London as their permanent base, and Prince George was enrolled in reception at Thomas' school in Battersea, where he still goes.

Princess Charlotte's big day at nursery came almost two years to the day after her brother's. As the family had moved to Kensington Palace by this point, William and Kate's only daughter was sent to Willcock's Nursery School, and in typical fashion they shared a photograph of her for the world to see.

In the picture - another taken by keen photographer Kate Middleton - a then-two-year-old Charlotte wore a little red coat and a pink scarf as she beamed while sitting on some steps. Not only did royal fans comment on how predictably adorable she looked, but they also noted how similar the Princess looked to her late grandmother, Princess Diana.

Now there's a full set of nursery photos for the young royals, it won't be long until Prince Louis' first day at school comes around...
